Turtle-Shaped Spinach Bread Rolls
These delightful spinach turtles are a playful and tasty snack, especially popular with kids. They are also a great addition to parties or picnics.
Ingredients
Dough:
- 200 g rolled pizza dough store-bought or homemade
Filling:
- 1 cup spinach blanched, drained, and chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2-3 tbsp sour cream
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan or cheese to taste
Decoration:
- Whole black peppercorns for eyes
- 1 egg for egg wash
- whole pumpkin seeds for tail
Instructions
- Chop the spinach and mix it with sour cream. Season the filling to taste with garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Mix in grated parmesan or cheese.
- Set aside about 1/8 of the pizza dough. Roll out the remaining dough into a rectangle (or simply unfold it), spread it with the spinach filling, and roll it up.
- Roll it in such a way that you get a shorter and thicker log.
- Cut the log into slices about 1.5 cm – 2 cm thick and place them on baking paper. From the reserved dough, shape 5 smaller balls for each slice to form the turtle's legs and head, and attach them to the slice to create the shape of a turtle.
- Add whole peppercorns for the eyes and pumpkin seeds for the tail.
- Brush the turtles with beaten egg.
- Bake them for about 12 - 15 minutes at 200°C (392°F) or until nicely golden.
